Another year has come and gone, as 2009 starts we would like to take this opportunity to welcome all the newcomers to town and remind everyone of some of the City's policies.
Policy Reminders
1. Garbage Pickup - Garbage pick up for all residents of Newell is on Wednesday of each week.
2. Allowable Garbage - Please remember that this garbage service is only for "normal" household garbage and must be bagged or in cans. "Normal" household garbage does not include items such as, rugs, furniture, ashes, building materials (wood, shingles, etc.), animal hides or remains from hunting and fishing. All pet wastes MUST be bagged or it will not be picked up.
3. Garbage Cans - We do not pick up garbage cans bigger than 30-gallon capacity and they must have handles.
4. Garbage Pick up Point - The garbage needs to be placed along the street (not in the alley), at the curb with unobstructed access.
5. Landfill - The Restricted Use Rubble site is on the 1st and 3rd Saturday of every month from 9:00 am until 12:00 noon May 1st thru October 31st. November 1st thru April 30 please call city office for appointment. There is a charge, with only certain items being accepted. You can call the City office for specifics.
6. Utility Bills - The water utility bill is due on the 1st of the month. If the Finance Officer does not receive the payment by the 10th of the month it is considered delinquent.
7. Penalty - Bills paid after the 10th of the month must pay a $25.00 per month penalty.
8. Account Audit - All accounts will be checked at least once a year for correct meter readings and payment date. If payments have been made after the 10th of the month and penalty not paid a bill will be sent.
9. Police - The City has contracted police services through the Butte County Sheriff's department. If you need assistance please call dispatch at 892-2737. If you have an emergency, use 911.
10. Hall rent - Inquire at city finance office for rates.
11. If you need to reach the City employees during business hours you can call the City Hall 456-2737 or Maintenance Shop 456-2812. If you have a water or sewer emergency after business hours please call the pager at 1-605-210-1911.
12. If the water at the curb is turned on, you must pay the minimum utility charges every month, even if you are not home. If you don't want to pay the monthly charge then you need to contact the city and have the water shut off.
13. Irrigation water is available for City of Newell residents. A $3.00 fee per household per month is due with your water bill.
